Crazy Jack
I thundered into Hole-in-the-Wall, In a blanket of dust. Two heart beats from the law, Still in this refuge hid no man I could trust, I recognized a killer from posters I'd seen, A man called Crazy Jack, murderous and mean, Cherokee woman, first time I saw her there I fell in love with her eyes, her raven black hair, Crazy Jack could see how her eyes met mine, Like melody to a song or words to a rhyme. He lunged at me with his big Bowie knife, The price a man pays for looking at his wife. Came a terrible report and I saw blood spurt, Slumping he fell before me dead in the dirt. I spied the rifle that shot him in the back, Was the Cherokee woman, wife of Crazy jack. From Hole-in-the-Wall we rode away, On my black stallion and her shimmering bay. I smiled as I looked back Rest in Hell, I got your woman, Crazy Jack. |
