Born into a musical family in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, Dale,
being a self taught musician, learned to play guitar at the early age
of 11 while tuning into the local television station CHLT-TV and
playing along with the local radio broadcasts and was playing country
music "Professionally" by the age of 12 with his brother David and
close friends Ron Hesaltine and Murray Ward at the "Ive's Hill &
Drapers Corner" community hall earning $7.00 for a Saturday evening.
Not long after joining Ron's father Gerry Hesaltine's "Blue Ribbon Boys"
with Bruce Patton, Cliff Woodard, Stewart Deacon, Les Beaulieau, Ron
Ward and learning to play the "Big Band" era music, Dale's family
moved to Vancouver, B.C. in the late '60s.
Dale experienced the big city music scene, and after playing the
downtown Vancouver music circuit with various bands, he then helped
form the successful group "Highway" and eventually ended up
co-founding a six piece country music show band, "The Silver Dollar
Band," winning two 1978 BCCMA awards and touring with the likes of
Bobby Bare, Johnny Rivers, Ronnie Prophet, Dick Damron, Ray Griff and
the late Buck Owens & the Buckeroos, who recorded some of their
original compositions, of which he is very proud.
After long term success there, Dale found his way to eastern
Saskatchewan to pursue his dream of owning and running his own
nightclub, and also began working with the popular Saskatchewan "Moods
Indigo" dance band.
He also began a business association with Del Dunn, brother of
NHL player/coach Dave Dunn (Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks)
culminating in working the top country clubs and venues in Regina,
Saskatoon, and playing the " Big Valley Jamboree" in Craven in
1985, where he met Ontario native Terry Sumsion.
Always on the move and looking to improve, and with his personal
life bringing him to Ontario, Dale settled in the Brantford area and
eventually went on to work for 6 years with "Terry Sumsion & South
Paw" as lead electric guitar player, touring Ontario, Michigan,
Kentucky and Tennessee, and getting a chance to share the stage with
the likes of Martina McBride, Gene Watson, Kentucky Headhunters,
George Jones, John Conlee, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, as well as
being the Headliner with Terry Sumsion at venues throughout
Southwestern Ontario, and Canada in general.
As Terry slowed his touring dates, Dale went on to join with
Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees "The Good Brothers" (Larry,
Bruce & Brian) and toured throughout Canada and Europe, touring with
them until urgent family matters brought him off the road and home to
Quebec, where he still resides today.
Dale composes music, plays a multitude of instruments including,
guitar, pedal steel guitar, bass & resonator guitar, as well as strong
vocals.
After winning a prestigious local music achievement award in 2008
for "Musician Of The Year," he now composes and records in his home
studio, and via the internet, with musicians from coast to coast, while
freelancing with local artists and bands such as Chantal Cliche,
Jo-Anne Moreault, Four Wheel Drive, The Country
Swingers, and others...
Music is and always will be foremost in his life....
Dale suffered a serious stroke on Easter Sunday in 2011, but is gradually improving, and hopes to play again! He sends his love!.......
